"Country" and "Nation" are the same idea. "State" is a part of a country. like Lazio is a part of Italy. In the USA, each state has a unique identity and set of governing laws. there are Federal laws (National laws that all states use) and State laws (that each state creates by citizens voting).
My country has mountains, freedom, and 50 states. My state has 10,000 lakes, gets very cold in winter, and we are known for playing hockey.
