Yes. the 1st one means you dont want a reason to slap him, the 2nd one means you have to slap him but you want someone to stop you.

Yes. Even quite the opposite. The first sentence is about the cause, 'something making someone to slap', while the second sentence is about being preventive, not the cause. 'I might slap him but prevent that'

@cecilia22 when you say "don't give me a reason to ______" it can be like a warning. As in you don't want to slap anyone but if they were mean enough then you would do it. in the 1st one, it does not mean they are close to slapping someone, they are just saying don't give me a reason to.
the 2nd one does sound lile the speaker is almost about to slap someone because they know they will slap and are asking people around them to stop them from slapping.
