You're welcome! I'll try to answer the best I can so that it could make sense but Im bad at explaining haha. "So" is usually not used before words ended with "ing". If you want to replace it with something you could use "She is yearning for him very much" but so would not make sense in this case. You can use the word despite in the sentence but it would have to change. For example the sentence would change to "She is yearning for his affection, despite them not being a couple." but using "even though" makes the sentence sound better than "despite" would. ...I hope that helps?
