When to use IN, ON and AT?

I speak a lot of English everyday but I still having trouble with those three words. The difference between IN/ON and AT is already know by me, but I use IN and ON wrongly sometimes. Do you guys have a tip for it?

in - inside something (cookies IN a tin, wine IN a glass, child IN school)
on - on top of something (the chimney ON the roof, the dog ON the rug)
at - used for places (with a few exceptions) im AT home, she's AT work

sometimes, you can choose between "in" and "at" to give the sentence a slightly different meaning
"I'm IN the restaurant" (shows that you're already sitting at the table"
"I'm AT the restaurant" (shows that you're outside)

Thanks, it's hard because in Portuguese, we just use "em" for every situations.

We also use in, on and at for times as well.

In (time) = after a certain amount of time has passed.

"I'll be going overseas IN three days" = after three days has passed, I'll be going overseas.

All three are also used to reference a specific time, but you use "at" for time-of-day, "on" for days, and "in" for months or years.

"I'll be coming home again ON January 3rd."
"The party starts AT 10am ON Thursday"
"It was a myth than the Mayan calendar predicted the end of the world IN 2012."
"My birthday is IN June, ON the 20th."

Eu concordo belthazar! Em - in, on, at. Alguns exemplos agora no meu idioma:
1. No bolso - in the pocket
2. Na mesa - on the table
3. Em casa - at home
4. Em São Paulo - in São Paulo
5. Nessa (em + essa) altura - at that time
6. Nessa ocasião - on that occasion
