"Tu peux allumer la lumière, s'il-te-plaît ?"

Tu = you (singular)
peux = can
allumer = turn on
la lumière = the light
s'il-te-plaît= please (singular)

@DiDjixX Thank you. Can I ask why is the s'il-te-plaît with dashes and not spaces between words?

@iloverain7 Because it's considered as a single word, each of its parts can not be separated. Like "porte-monnaie", even if it's made up of two words having their meaning on their own ("porte" = "door" or "(the thing) that carries (something)". "monnaie" = "money" or "cash"), when they are combined like that, the dash shows that they can't be separated and that they represent a different object. "Porte-monnaie" means "purse" (lit: "(the thing) that carries money/cash").

1) S'il te plaît. - Please.
2) S'il-te-plaît. - Please.
3) S'il vous plaît. - Please.
4) S'il-vous-plaît. - Please.

@iloverain7 2) & 4) are the way you should write it. But 1) & 3) can be encountered when people have to type, like on the Internet (to go faster, they avoid some symbols (like dashes) because the meaning is absolutely obvious for this phrase). But I would highly recommend you to use the dashes. 1) & 3) are considered as errors. "S'il-te/vous-plaît" literally means "If that pleases you".

@DiDjixX Franchement vous dites vraiment n'importe quoi.

Les tirets n'ont JAMAIS été utilisés pour "s'il te plaît", aucun dictionnaire ne les propose, aucun professeur ne les enseigne, AUCUN manuel de français les utilise.

Je ne sais pas si vous étiez fatigué quand vous avez écrit votre message, mais il serait judicieux de vérifier vos affirmations avant d'induire les apprenants en erreur, non ?
