How can I know when to use other, another and others???

1. When there are two things you are talking about, you could refer to them as one and another.
2. When there are more than two things you are talking about, you could refer to them as one and others(all the things except the one you have already mentioned).
3. 'Other' is an adjective, it cannot be used alone, you have to add something behind it to constitute a adj.+n. structure, for example, 'other people', 'other countries' etc.
'Another' can also be an adjective and be used in the same way as 'other'. For example, 'another word', 'another boy'.
Notice that 'another' can only modify singular nouns.
'Others' is a pronoun and cannot be used as an adjective.

Actually, "another" is an adjective also, same as "other". When you use it alone, you're actually implying another noun afterwards. "Here, have another" = "have another (biscuit)".

Etymologically, "another" = an + other. Thus when you'd want to say "an other" you use "another", but when it's "the other" you use "other". If that makes sense.

You use "others" when there's more than one other.
