Why does Koreans tend to pat people on their backs or heads like several times and slowly? I see that on a lot of dramas. And the reason why i ask this is because in Mexico that is like and awkward way of saying “that’s okay but that’s also enough” without look mean. For example if someone cries and you think it’s kind of annoying you do that to get out of the situation without looking mean or rude. But people on kdramas don’t seem annoyed when doing it.

Patting head or back to comfort or cheer someone who's crying or sad while saying "it's okay,everythings gonna be alright, i'm right here"
It will show the person you understand their feelings, and facilitate the deepening of his or her own understanding of them
You can do it to your besties or your couple
People love treated like that because its comforting i dont understand why it is annoying or rude for mexican xD

@blackbeans well it’s when you are not really that close to that person or when you think that the person is embarrassing or cringey. When we want to make someone we love know that we understand how they feel we just hug them and when they are not that close instead of patting she kinda rub their back. We do pat but for example my mom does it to me when she es being extra cute or moms often do it to kids when they are rooking them to sleep and they use the whole hand. Soft patting means like “its okay, stop”

well i think thats a culture difference.
but it can be also like do two times pat with the whole palm and tend more strong not softly
usually bros and dudes does it and saying "its okay bro now you can stop" or parent to their child bcs its kinda awkward a men do a soft and several times pat to other male.
its depending how deep your relationship with them, usually does among the couples, or girl to girl
i hope you can get what i mean,bcs it really hard to explain it in english, i'm still learning

@blackbeans hahaha same. I speak Spanish, I can speak English pretty well but not as great as a Native American. Yea, for us it was weird because at least Mexican people tend to be more like, warm as in we do a lot of physical contact. And so for us that isn’t very comforting haha. Funny how things can vary in different cultures. Thanks tho, your answer was really helpful.
