You can use "quiero" for something you want or to express a rather medium level of affection or endearment to someone (specially friends). Specifically "quiero" Is the conjugation for the first person singular "I"= "yo"
"(Yo) Quiero un helado" = "I want an ice cream."
"¡Quiero dormir más!" = "I want to sleep more!"
"¡Te quiero mucho!" = "I love you so much!"
"Yo quiero más a mis perros que a mis vecinos" = "I love/like my dogs more than my neighbors"
