We say this to give someone an advance warning of something. For example, “I was supposed to be cleaning my room but I was playing video games. My brother gave me a heads up that our mom was walking down the hall to our room. I quickly turned off the video game and started cleaning. My brother saved me from getting in trouble!”

Be aware of what is happening. It might be said when there is something dangerous nearby or when you want to toss an object to someone

“Heads up!” Has the same meaning as “watch out!”
It can be used as an exclamation and as a noun.
Exclamation: same as “watch out!” “Look!” “Oh my god!” Saying something in a higher voice and with more emphasis than a regular sentence or word.
“Heads up!” Maria yells when Victor walks in front of a driving car.”
“Heads up!” Victor exclaims when Maria walks into a door.
Noun: used to identify people, things or places.
It’s used to warn people before something happens, but it is not used when in danger, usually only in casual conversations.
“Antonio is sick today. I’m just giving you a heads up.”
“Maria gave me a heads up on the situation.”
Hope this helped :)
