@moyashi99 OK, it makes a lot more sense with "latter", plus the word "photos" was missing.
"The latter made the flexibility of what photos can be seen as representing more obvious."
Let's simplify this sentence. The main clause is "The latter made X more obvious". First of all, what is "the latter"? We are given a list in the previous sentence: "can be .. copied, duplicated and edited". The latter on that list is "edited". So we can rephrase this to "Ability to edit made X more obvious." Which means that X didn't used to be obvious, but now that we can edit images, X becomes very clear.
X itself is "the flexibility of what photos can be seen as representing". Photos were supposed to represent reality. That is, we see photos as something that represents reality, or if you make it impersonal, "photos are seen as representing reality". However, now that they can be edited, we realize that they do not necessarily represent reality. That is, we realize that what they are representing is flexible = it may be reality, or it may be something digitally created/edited. What photos can be seen [by us] as representing is flexible. If you change it to a noun, i.e. use flexibility as a property, it turns into "the flexibility of what photos can be seen as representing."
This gives you the whole sentence you're trying to understand.

I don't get it. It might be broken English, or just more context is required.

@cmertb I read a book which is written about the advent of digital camera and its influences. For example, digital cameras has shifted the focus of photograhy from photograhs themselves to the act of taking pictures. (Printed images of loved ones used to be kept even if they were out of forcus, but now the labour of love becomes the cleaning, sorting, tagging, and deleting majorities of photos). In addition, this author concluded that the advent of cell phone with a camera created three-way use of cell phones with cameras.

@moyashi99 I still don't get it. Are you sure it's "letter"? Can you just post an image of the entire passage from the book?
