When I hear "playback" I think of something played in reverse. I dont know. Why is it called "playback"? Why "back"?

Playback is when you watch or hear music or video over again. Playback that song! It's my favorite!
They want to learn how to dance hip-hop so they playback the dance video many times!

@Beyonder6666 It's the reproduction of previously recorded sounds or moving images.

@nelson-NY- But to watch or listen to something over and over again would be "to repeat." You can put something on repeat. Playback just means to watch or listen to something previously recorded. But why is it "playback' and not,for example, "playagain." What is the origin? How is it different from "replay," and why is it different from 'replay"?

@Beyonder6666 Because some time back you listened to smth and want to do that AGAIN. It's like to back in time, not reverse, just do that again as you do it the first time again.

@XpUcTR Can you give me example sentences with this word? Like your own ones. All the instances in which you personally would use the word "playback."

@Beyonder6666 Usually we use that word related to music/pictures.
Example. A band just recorded their first song for an upcoming comeback. So they listened to a playback of that first recording.

Playback, repeat or replay mean the same. However, playback is the natural way when you're talking about music or videos. It will make you sound more knowledgeable about it.

@XpUcTR Okay, so "playback' means to watch or listen to something previously recorded, right? Then why when I am about to watch a youtube video [for the first time] it says "if playback doesnt begin shortly,bla,bla,bla...." What's that supposed to mean? I am about to watch it for the first time. How does that make sense?

@Beyonder6666 I'm sorry, I must express myself not clearly.
Playback is a play of music or a video that previously was recorded. It does not really touch you but the video/music itself. It's kinda hard to explain to you that 😅

I mean when you got to a theater, you play it back metaphorically, of course. But it's pretty much the same. Except it's not on the internet.
- Russo
@XpUcTR You should've asked me if I liked my native language first, lol. I hate the living hell out of it. So I had to translate all that you wrote in Russian into English. Basically it was pointless. Sorry.
- Russo
@XpUcTR Okay. Can you just tell me when it is that you just watch something and when you playback something. Because, as I understand, pretty much everything [ like EVERYTHING] was recorded by somebody. So what is the difference then? When do you just watch something without playing it back?
- Russo
Oh my god, there's even 'repeat playback.' Two words that mean pretty much the same thing together? That's an overkill.

@Beyonder6666 language is not a philosophy. Two people gave you a definition. Truly we said u everything I have no idea why it's so hard to understand. Maybe the Russian language doesn't have such twists that make you hard to get it.
BTW, what did you mean by saying "You should have asked me if I like**** my native language "
You don't like your mother tongue language?

Seamless playback means uninterrupted playback of consecutive audio tracks. Playing music tracks without a transition.

@XpUcTR It doesn't matter if there is no such twists in Russian. You see all this time I've been learning English IN English. I do not ever try to find a Russian word synonymous with an English word. There's no connection between the two languages in my head whatsoever.I simply ignore the fact that I know Russian and am learning English as if it's the only language that exists in my head. So I'm basically I'm like a newborn who is trying to get on their feet. You told me that you can playback something without having seen it before and that it doesnt matter if it wasnt recorded by you. When you say "recorded" do you mean created by somebody or recorded using a software [ like Bandicam or something] ? Like a finished product captured by somebody so that they can watch it later [play it back]

@XpUcTR U know why I dont like Russian. Cuz it's borrowed a lot from English. And I'm sure even the word "playback" is used by Russians. Except it's spelled in Russian letters and is pronounced with Russian accent. When you take a word from another language and do not explain why it means what it means.....I mean it's just not right. For example, we use the word " blockade" in Russian, too. Even tho we do understand what it means [ the definition of it], we do not have that bonus understanding English speakers do. What I mean by that is it is much easier for you to understand or guess what the word means because there's "block" in there, and the word "block" is common and is used frequently by English speakers. In Russia we have a different word for "block" and yet we use the word "blockade" with "block" in it anyway. So, in Russian there's just no way you can guess what it means because there's nothing you know about it. The word "block" is not Russian. Russians dont know what block means. They just simply learn the definition of this English word in school and then perceive it to mean that one thing for the rest of their lives. Basically, what I'm saying is that they understand what the word means because they learned its definition. But they dont know nothing else about it. They probably dont even know that the word is not Russian. That it was borrowed from English. Why I think it's English? Well because the word "block" is English. So it only makes sense. And that's just one word. There are many words like that that were borrowed from English that we Russians only know by definition. We dont know nothing else about em.And that sucks. Because I think that if you have a word that means the exact same thing then u should not borrow it's synonym from another language. It's only gonna confuse your citizen. But Russia keeps doing that anyway. So I wanted to get outside of that bubble/box and finally understand why those words are in Russian and are they really Russian. As it turned out all those words that had always seemed weird to me as a kid and a teenager were English words that were borrowed by some morons from English and forced upon us. So I'm now woke and I know what's what. It all makes sense to me now that I know English. English is what made me realize that I was so fricking dumb. You know why people borrow English words without even translating them into their own language. Cuz that
s how influential and popular English is. All the countries are learning it. But they never explain to u why certain stuff means what it means. They just corrupt an English word, spell it in their own way, make you pronounce it with your native accent, let you know what its definition is , and that's it. To me, it's like being blind. And so I didnt wanna be blind anymore. That
s why I decided to start learning English. Do you know what the word "preservative" means in Russian? It means "condom." Not only did they borrow the word, but they corrupted it. Why did they decide to do that? I dont know. Maybe because a condom preserves your semen? That's stupid. They are just dumb. So fuck Russian. At least in English there is a word which is "preserve" and "preservative" is derived from that word. But in Russian there's no such word as "preserve" so it's obvious that they just corrupted the English one. We do have a word that is synonymous with "preserve" but those fuckers never use their own language. They name stuff English words all the time. And as a Russian person, you always look at something, see a foreign words spelled in you language and go like, "huh?"
But people in Russia do not go like, "what?" when they hear the word "preservative." That's because it was corrupted a long time ago and everybody is used to it. I was tired of not knowing anything , so I started learning the language where it was all borrowed from. Russian sucks, man.

@Beyonder6666 Oh... I get it. You know, many other languages borrowed words from English and even from other languages. Why? Because that word, that meaning, that thing, whatever, didn't exist in their language nature before.
Someone invented something totally new in the whole world. He/she needs to name it. How will he do that? Name after himself, create a new word or from another origin word USING his mother tongue. And when other countries, nations that speak their own language get to know about it, start to use it etc. they also have to name it somehow. So they simply name it in the way it was, borrow a name. And yes, thus the word in their language will lose its meaning if a word had its English origin word.
English has a lot of words that are a combination of two other words. Or was created originally from a root word. So when foreigners borrow another language' words they usually skip the meaning.
But it's pretty hard to be totally into another language with all your mind. You can learn many languages, you can be pretty good at it. You can freely speak them but your mother tongue will touch your heart as none will.
