Q:
Qual é a diferença entre someone e somebody ?
A:
More or less. The only distinction I can think of is that "someone" can carry the connotation that you have a specific person in mind (like the phrase "a certain someone/somebody"), whereas "anyone" is more general and is better to use if you don't have a specific person in mind.
Q:
Qual é a diferença entre Put someone up e Drop in ?
A:
I have to admit, I'm not sure about "put you up," I'd need more context on the conversation.
"Drop in" means to go see the person anytime with out an appointment or letting them know that you're coming by. The phrase "Drop in appointment" is commonly used by businesses like hair salons where you can get a service done without making an appointment first.

Q:
Qual é a diferença entre "if someone said -." e "if someone was to say-." ?
A:
The second phrase is more hypothetical, and we usually use it when talking about more unlikely situations. "If someone were to say 'I've always loved you' to your face, how would you feel?" The first is more conditional, e.g. "If someone said 'Hi' to me on the street, I would say 'Hi' back." You could use "If someone said" for hypothetical situations too, though, in casual English.
Q:
Qual é a diferença entre have someone do something e get someone to do something ?
A:
It's pretty much the same meaning. I guess the difference is "get them to do it" is active like u go out and persuade them. "Have someone do it" is passive

If someone is really excited and they are so happy that they jump and shout, can I say this to them ' Can you please calm down? '?
A:
If it were me, I’d let the kid be happy. I wouldn’t give him any sugar so his energy reserves would soon deplete.
If his excitement was starting to become annoying, maybe tell him to turn the volume down by a few notches? But say it with a smile. 🙂

Q:
Can someone tell me why the English are "faintly embarrassed by the suggestion"? I'm not sure what the logic behind this is.
“The most characteristic English statement about belief is ‘Well, I’m not particularly religious’, faintly embarrassed by the suggestion that there might be something more to life. It sometimes seems the Church of England thinks God is just the ultimate ‘good chap’.”

A:
Overall, the idea is that the English character is too practical and unemotional to admit to spirituality. It suggests there is something slightly embarrassing about admitting to a religious belief, because other people might see you as impractical, over-confident, gullible, childish, or something like that. The second sentence reinforces this: even the church doesn’t want to talk publicly about god as a genuine spiritual being, just as an example of kind and fair behaviour.
Q:
Can someone correct my letter? (it is corrected but I’d like to hear from more people...)
A:
@aceatom
Hey Ana,
how's it going? I can't believe it's drawing closer to the end of December and we haven't spoken to ourselves for over a month. I just want to know how your doing.
If you recall, the last time we had a chat,I was in between jobs and guess what, I applied for the position of a tennis coach at the tennis club nearby.
Tennis is something I've had a passion for all my life. I trained with some great coaches so I'm pretty sure that with my experience I could provide my student with great knowledge.
As an ex-competitor, I understand what most students struggle with and its an important thing to be considered as a coach and also for the club that will be hiring don't you think?
I've got to go for now, you should attend one of my lessons if I'm hired. Hope to hear from you soon.
Happy Holidays.

Q:
Can someone please help with me this please?
I have to make it much simpler:
As we learn to navigate the online world, it is important to help children.
I have to make it much simpler:
As we learn to navigate the online world, it is important to help children.
A:
Oh okay, sure!
This sentence features two different clauses:
'As we learn to navigate the online world'
and
'it is important to help children',
separated by a comma.
'To navigate' is a verb that means 'to explore a new or unfamiliar place'. This implies that the 'online world' is a place we don't know well yet.
The purpose of 'As' in this sentence is to show that 'helping children' must be done at the same time as 'navigating the online world'.
The end of this sentence, like I've said before, doesn't fit well with the English ear because we are left wondering, 'What do we need to help children do?'
