Q: O que significa were it not for?
A: were it not for (someone or something)
If someone or something hadn't helped, intervened, or affected the situation in some way. The phrase is always accompanied by an explanation of how things would have turned out differently without someone or something.

Q: O que significa That was exactly what I had come to tell him.?
A: Let’s say you are late for school. Your mom comes into your room and tells you “you are late for school”. Your Dad came into your room after your mom and says “That was exactly what I had come to tell him”
It would basically be used like this. It means you were about to tell someone something but someone else got there before you and said it first. Does this make sense?

Palavras similares a "Be" e suas diferenças

Q: Qual é a diferença entre How am I expected to e How am I supposed to ?
A: expected to - the focus is on expectation from another person.
supposed to - the focus is on you and either the right way to do something, or how you will do it.

How am I expected to do it so soon ?( impossible expectation from your boss)
How am I supposed to do it when I have so much to do?( focus on you and your work load)
I know its a very subtle difference.

how am I supposed to do it - is more commonly a question about instructions - what is the right way to do something.

sorry for long answer!
Q: Qual é a diferença entre to be distracted e to daydream ?
A: A daydream is a type of distraction. You are deep in your thoughts about something unrelated to what you are supposed to be doing and much less aware of your current surroundings. You escape your present reality a little. You are awake while daydreaming.
A distraction is anything that takes your attention away from the object or situation that you should normally focus on. You stop 'paying attention' (concentrating on what is important).
- He was daydreaming about how he would win next week's race until the teacher said his name 3 times.
- She could not study because she kept daydreaming about vacation.
- He rode the bus and had a daydream about hiking in the mountains.

- She missed the expressway exit because her children distracted her singing a funny song.
- Sometimes one pickpocket will distract a person by asking for help and a second pickpocket will then steal from the person.
- He was so distracted by his cell phone that he walked into a parked car.
Q: Qual é a diferença entre Where are they? e Where are they at? ?
A: @gwenduhlyn

The second one is just a slangy type of way to say the first one.
Q: Qual é a diferença entre I was like ... e I said to myself ... ?
A: I think there's a small difference in nuance, but you're right that they both can be used here.

I think "I said to myself..." sounds too literary for casual conversation. And if you used it, I would think those were the exact words you said or thought to yourself.

We use "I was like..." all the time though. It's more flexible because you can use it to put your emotions into words, and those words don't necessarily have to be what was said or thought. If someone said, "I was like, what's happening?", they might just be describing the fear or panic they felt and didn't actually say OR think it. It may or may not be a direct quote.

Please let me know if anything I said wasn't clear!
Q: Qual é a diferença entre I shall be late e I will be late ?
A: They mean the same thing, but “I shall be late” sounds too formal and isn’t something that you will hear.

It’s better to just say “I will be late”.

e-sports are popular
Which is right?
A: It depends if "e-sports" is a plural or singular in the context.
In "E-sports are popular." you are using "e-sports" to refer to multiple online sporting games, so it is a plural and so you use "are".
In "E-sports is a market worth $700m a year." you are using "e-sports" to refer to a single category called "e-sports", so it is a singular and so you use "is".
Hope this helps : )
